CANTON, OHIO, January 9, 2018 – The law firm of Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., L.P.A. (KWGD) announced today that attorney Aletha M. Carver has been certified as an appellate law specialist by the Ohio State Bar Association. Appellate law certification is accorded to relatively few Ohio lawyers, in fact, there are only two certified in the 15 counties comprising the 5th District Court of Appeals and only 28 in the entire state.

The State Bar program for certifying legal specialists is a rigorous process. To be considered for certification, an attorney must pass a written exam, demonstrate a high level of experience, complete at least 36 hours of continuing legal education in their specialty within a three-year period prior to sitting for the exam and be favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with the attorney’s work. “We are very excited about Aletha’s appellate law certification,” stated managing director Terry Moore. “This accomplishment underscores and highlights her expertise in appellate law and procedure and Aletha’s well-deserved reputation for attaining positive results in the appellate court on behalf of our clients.”

Recent victories for KWGD and the firm’s appellate group include Hustack, et al. v. Beck Energy Corp., 2016-Ohio-178; State ex rel. Claugus Family Farm, l..P. v. Seventh Dist. Ct. of Appeals, 2016-Ohio-178.

A Canton resident, Ms. Carver is a Director/Shareholder at KWGD and practices out of the firm’s Canton office. Her practice is focused on appellate law and general litigation. Her depth of experience encompasses 13 years with the 5th District Court of Appeals serving as senior staff attorney to the Honorable John W. Wise. Ms. Carver graduated from the University of Akron (cum laude) and received her Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law. Ms. Carver is a Member of the Ohio State and Stark County Bar Associations; a member of The Jackson Township Rotary Club, where she served as President, 2000-2001 and Assistant District Governor, 2003-2006, and currently serves as Co-Chair of District 6650’s Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Ms. Carver also serves on the Board for the Friends of the Children’s Network.
